Leadership Alliance Online Forum
Frequently Asked Questions

This page was last updated July 7, 2007 and is sent to the Online Forum monthly.

The moderators are frequently asked the following questions:

Q1: I am getting too many emails from the Leadership Alliance - what can I do?
                      -or-
I am going on vacation, how can I stop email from the online forum while I'm out of town?

A1: Please do not be alarmed if you begin to receive a flood of messages from the Leadership Alliance, as you have a choice to make as to how you receive them. You may choose to get them (approx. 5 - 10 per day) individually, or as the digest version - all in one message once a day. You may also choose not to receive any email at all and read the messages on the Yahoo site if you prefer an online forum.

  • The default setting is Individual Messages, so you don't need to anything initially if that is your choice. But if you have changed the setting for your account and want to change it back to individual messages, send a blank email to LeadersAlliance-normal@yahoogroups.com.

  • If you prefer to receive the Digest Version, send a blank email to
    LeadersAlliance-digest@yahoogroups.com.

  • If you do not want to receive email messages from the online forum, send a blank email to
LeadersAlliance-nomail@yahoogroups.com. This is a good option if you prefer to read messages on the Yahoo site and the way to temporarily "stop the mail" when you go on vacation. When you want to receive email from the list again, use the appropriate command to set your account to Individual Messages or to Digest Version. Please use the Special Notice option rather than No Mail so you will receive urgent messages from the moderators.

There is a short delay until the database is updated, but it does work.

Another way to change your delivery options is to edit your account on the Yahoo site. To do this, go to http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/LeadersAlliance and click the Edit Membership link near the top of the page. You can change your delivery options and make other changes in your account there such as changing your email address or your profile, whether you want to receive messages in the traditional (text) format or the new and improved fully featured format. You will need to associate a Yahoo ID with your membership in this Group and be logged in with Yahoo to access this option. See question 2 below for details.

A better option than setting your email to No Mail when you are away is to set it to Special Notices instead. This means that you will receive notices sent by the Moderators as Special Notices but will not receive any other email from the online forum. In order to choose this option, you will need to edit your account on the Yahoo site.

Q2: I paid my dues to join LA, but I am unable to access the information on the Yahoo site at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LeadersAlliance

A2: The LA online forum is actually a Yahoo Group, and access toour Yahoo site is restricted to LA members who are members of the LeadersAlliance group at Yahoo. If you are receiving email from the online forum, you are a member of the LeadersAlliance Yahoo group. But for Yahoo to recognize you as a member of the group, you must register with Yahoo, sign in, and your subscription in the Group must be associated with your Yahoo Profile.

Follow the instructions in the Ins and Outs of the Yahoo Site to join Yahoo, sign in, or associate your email address with your existing Yahoo profile so the Yahoo computer will recognize you as a member of this group. If you have any difficulty doing this, please email the moderators and ask us to send you a Request for Profile.

Note that you must be registered - and signed in - with Yahoo to access our Yahoo site. If you have registered before and cannot access the Files or archived Messages or other materials on the Yahoo site, you need to sign in. Look near the top of the page. You will see either a link to Sign In or a link to Sign Out. If you see the Sign In link, click it and follow instructions on the screen.

Q3: I've changed my email address and now I can't post to the online forum. What can I do?

A3: Please notify the LA office of your change of email address. We'll change our records to reflect the change. The email address for the office is included in every message from the online forum and it is provided at the bottom of this page.

You have two choices as to how to change your email address on Yahoo - you can do it yourself or you can ask the LA office to do it for you.

Doing it yourself. If you have established a Yahoo Profile and can access the information on the Yahoo site, you may prefer to change it yourself.

Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups and click on Email Preferences then click on Add Email Address to add the new email address to your account.

Return to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups and click on Edit My Groups. Use the pull down list to select the new email address for LeadersAlliance. If you are a member of other groups, you can easily change them at the same time.

Asking the LA Office to do it for you. No one can modify your Yahoo account for you - only you can do that. The only way we can change your email address is to unsubscribe your old email address from the online forum and then subscribe the new one. This is a good option if you do not wish to access the Yahoo site, and we'll be happy to do it for you.

When you email your change of email address to the LA Office, ask the office administrator to change it for you on the online forum. The email address for the LA Office is given on every email message from the online forum.

Please note that you will get a message to your old email address when that email address is unsubscribed - just ignore it. You will also get the new member message to the new email address. We suggest that you read and keep that - the information may have been updated since you were first subscribed and it's good to have the latest copy.

If you ask the LA office to do this for you, you will need to reset your delivery options if you don't want to receive the Individual Messages. See the new member message or Question 1 above if you don't remember how to do this.

If you wish to access the Yahoo website, you will need to associate your new subscription to the list with your Yahoo ID. Follow the instructions on the Ins and Outs of the Yahoo Site page to associate your new email address with your Yahoo profile so the Yahoo computer will recognize you as a member of this group.

If you access the Yahoo site, it is easier for you if you change your email address yourself. But, please don't forget to let the office know that you have a new email address so we can keep the LA records up to date.

Q4: I have a new computer, or want to work from my laptop or from work, and Yahoo does not recognize me on the other computer. I see Welcome Visitor when I attempt to visit the Yahoo website. Do I have to do that Yahoo thing again?

A4: You never have to do the Yahoo thing again. <yea!> If you use the same email address on the other computer, all you need to do it Sign In on the other computer. See the previous questions for additional information. If you use different email addresses on the two computers, please see the next question.

If you have completed the process of associating a Yahoo ID with your email address, the moderators can tell you what you selected as a Yahoo ID. They cannot tell you what you used as a password - they don't know and Yahoo will not tell them.

Q5: I'd like to access the Yahoo web site and/or post messages from the office, but can't. My office email address is not recognized. What can I do?

A5: You can receive email at only one email address, but you can post from and access the Yahoo site from several email addresses.

To enter alternate email addresses, just go to http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups, click on LeadersAlliance, then click on Edit My Membership. You will be able to enter additional email addresses and specify which one you want to have your messages sent to.

You will need to validate the new email addresses. Again, this means that Yahoo will send you an email to that email address and you must give the code from the message to prove that you get email at that address.

You will need to Sign In on the other computer as explained above.

I hope this will answer some of your questions. Please ask the moderators if you have questions not covered here. Who knows - maybe you'll see your question on the list next time.

This message will be sent to you every month. Please note the date and check for any changes.
